Preston Smith has never missed a game in four years in the NFL. He'll make $37 million over four years, per NFL Network, and get $21 million in his first two years. Throughout Thompson's reign over the Packers, it's safe to say he preferred the Patriots/Ravens method of team building, where compensatory draft picks are deemed more valuable than (the majority of) in-house free agents looking for big pay days. Amos is an extremely physical safety, who is a massive upgrade from Kentrell Brice both in coverage and in the box.

Baltimore's visit to Kansas City last season provided two strong examples of Smith's game-changing ability on third down. Smith will be a huge addition to a pass rush that struggled mightily to create consistent pressure on the quarterback in 2018.

"We want to thank Nick for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers and the community over the last seven seasons", Gutekunst said. General manager Ryan Pace made a similar decision Monday, deciding to sign veteran nickel back Buster Skrine instead of keeping Bryce Callahan, who figures to get a larger contract than the $8.5 million guaranteed and $16.5 total Skrine took home.

The Packers certainly aren't afraid to pay for upgrades. Perry had a five-year, $60 million contract.

He recorded 73 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups last season for the Bears, who won the NFC Central.

The Packers got the versatile Turner, who has played and excelled at left guard, right guard, and right tackle in the National Football League, for four years, $28 million ($7 million/year).

The deal can't become official until after the new year begins on Wednesday at 3 PM CST.
