"If Hillary Clinton had called me, I would have done it", Kelly said during an appearance at Duke University this week, according to NBC News.

Kelly also distanced himself Wednesday from Trump's perception of immigrants crossing the U.S. -Mexico border.

"They're overwhelmingly not criminals", he said, according to Fortune and other publications.

Despite Trump's repeated portrayal of immigrants as unsafe lawbreakers, Kelly said most asylum seekers are "overwhelmingly not criminals" and are "people coming up here for economic purposes". "I don't blame them for that", he said.

Hillary Clinton recently revealed that she won't running for election in 2020 and obviously, Donald Trump had to tweet about it.

Fact-checkers noted that Trump has at various times called for a concrete wall, though he has long said that it need not stretch for 2,000 miles because of natural barriers that exist along the border.

Trump declared the national emergency in February after Congress failed to muster enough votes to provide the wall funding necessary to secure the border.

"Politics aside, it's all about governing the country", he added.

He dissed Trump's decision to declare a national emergency to get the funds, saying "We don't need a wall from sea to shining sea". "But I'm going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe". "The decision to separate families was a decision made by the Attorney General".

Kelly said, however, that the larger issue of the border "gets into the alienation and lack of bipartisanship that we seem to be crippled with".

Clinton's supporters claimed Trump's "obsession" was the result of his losing the popular vote or, while on the opposite end of the spectrum, the president's supporters said his fixation was based on a desire to see Clinton in jail.

"Love 'em or hate 'em, whoever it happens to be, once they become president, it is our best interest as a people to assist him or her as much as we can to become successful".
