Nintendo Announces Labo VR Kit: Releasing April 12 - News

Rumors regarding Nintendo finally embracing virtual reality proved true today with the announcement of its Labo: VR Kit for Switch. People will be able to get a full kit, or purchase it as a base Starter Set and pick up two expansions separately.

Coming out of absolutely nowhere, Nintendo just announced a new virtual reality set for the Nintendo Switch, which will make use of the platform's Labo cardboard-building concept. Fend off an alien invasion with the Toy-Con Blaster, visit a colorful in-game ocean and snap photos of the sea life with the Toy-Con Camera and so much more.

The second kit is a starter set, stripped down to include the Goggles and Blaster. These goggles will combine with other creations (possibly from past kits) to let players experience a basic form of VR at a low cost.

The VR Kit is created to be passed around and shared among a group of people, Nintendo said.

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit encourages passing around the Toy-Con creations among a group of people so everyone in the room can easily join in on the fun. You can also turn off the VR feature and use the included Screen Holder to experience content in 2D.

"With the new Nintendo Labo VR Kit, there's more to Make, Play, and Discover together than ever before", the Nintendo Labo website reads.

Slated for release April 12, Nintendo will offer two packages and two expansion packs for its Labo: VR kits.

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit ($79.99): The complete Nintendo Labo: VR Kit includes Switch software and materials to build all six Toy-Con projects - the Toy-Con VR Goggles, Toy-Con Blaster, Toy-Con Camera, Toy-Con Bird, Toy-Con Wind Pedal and Toy-Con Elephant - as well as a Screen Holder and Safety Cap. "VR Kit is a unique first VR experience kids and families can build themselves!" Those looking to get their feet wet can begin with the Starter Set, which includes the VR Goggles as well as a Blaster, for $39.99.
