That suggestion is not coming directly from us, but from Justin Schuh, Google Chrome's security boss and engineering director.

While possible exploitation of a vulnerable Chrome installation can lead to very serious consequences from data deletion and malware infections, it's also important to understand that the attackers will only be able to run code under the context of the user browser. The vulnerability exploits CVE-2019-5786, a security flaw and the only patch included in the Chrome 72.0.3626.121 version, released on March 1, 2019.

Today's blog post provides these much-needed details, with the company revealing the existence of the Windows 7 zero-day, which attackers were using together with the Chrome zero-day in coordinated attacks.

In any event, you should update your Android and desktop versions of the Chrome browser to version 72.0.3626.121 via the buttons below. The exploit, known as CVE-2019-5786, is said to be a use-after-free flaw in the browser's FileReader application programming interface, an API created to allow the browser to access and read locally stored files. "We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven't yet fixed".

The most recent version of Google Chrome for Windows, Linux, and macOS resolves a zero-day vulnerability which the search giant warns is already being exploited in the wild. It may be used to install malicious software on a computer.

Exploiting the vulnerability would allow an attacker to carry out what's known as RCE, or Remote Code Execution, and potentially implant malware on a user's computer. If this isn't your version, you can manually start a download.
