Oscars 2019: Red Carpet Arrivals!

Netflix Disrupts the Theaters as Roma Wins Hollywood’s Esteem

Netflix Disrupts the Theaters as Roma Wins Hollywood’s Esteem

Every year we all wait for the biggest night of Hollywood, the Oscars.

There are two Australian hopes this year: screenwriter Tony McNamara and production designer Fiona Crombie.

Australian Tony McNamara has been nominated for co-writing "The Favourite".

They also focus on American movies, limiting Oscar nominees like Roma and The Favourite, which are both nominated for best global film.

"It's tricky", Crombie told AAP when asked if she was comfortable with being the short-priced production design category favourite.

The red carpet will kick off on Sky Cinema Oscars from 10pm, with Sky One also showing the same at midnight. No foreign language film has ever won best picture, and no movie has ever won both. The LIVE broadcast will be available on Star Movies, Star Movies HD, and Star Movies Select HD.

But civil rights dramedy "Green Book" has overcome controversy to remain on the radar and could benefit from the Academy's complex preferential voting system to snatch the top prize.

The 7900-odd voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had bold choices in front of them - traditional arthouse Oscar bait and big, rousing blockbusters.

A Star is Born and Vice, who are also in the running for Best Picture, follow with eight nominations each.

OSCARS 2019 HOST: After the controversy surrounding Kevin Hart, who originally accepted the gig, there is no reported host for the Academy Awards.

The evening's acts will see a set by Queen along with Adam Lambert.

Will Glenn Close finally win?

"I wouldn't be surprised if the newcomer disrupts in this case".

Lady Gaga is widely expected to take home her first Oscar for her hit song "Shallow", which she will perform on Sunday in a much-anticipated live duet with co-star and best actor nominee Bradley Cooper.

"It's very hard for me to accept the win-lose situation". A year ago in September, the Academy has introduced a new category, the Best Popular Film category. Actress-singer Laura Morano and entertainment journalist Louis Virtel will host the coverage which will feature greeter Chris Connelly and provide carpet highlights and insider access via 10 cameras outside the Dolby (fans can also submit questions to nominees, presenters and performers using #OscarsAllAccess). But it looks to be Close's night. Close won the Golden Globe for her role as Jane Anderson in the film.

Best supporting female went to Regina King for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.
