Epic Games, creators of Fortnite, have just announced the first ever "World Cup", scheduled to take place in NY this July. There will be ten weekly online qualifiers open to every player that will run from April 13 to June 16. Each week $1,000,000 will be on the line for eligible* Fortnite players, with payouts distributed broadly.

Epic Games announced Friday the Fortnite World Cup Finals will take place in New York City July 26-28.

Epic Games announce the details for the upcoming World Cup and more.

The US$30 million purse for the Fortnite World Cup Final surpasses that for previous record holder, the Dota 2 worldwide final in 2018, whose fan-funded prize pool reached US$25 million, with US$11 million awarded to the winning team and then split between its five players, manager, coach, and organisation. Fortnite has been quite rewarding these days, and many people think it's because of the growing of the Battle Royale genre.

In addition to the World Cup announcement, Epic also confirmed that weekly $1 million tournaments will continue through to the end of 2019. These tournaments will feature a wider variety of modes and formats to open up the competitive playing field.

Finally, much to the delight of competitive regions across the world, Epic has promised better tournament tools and prizes to select partners.
