NBA All-Star draft: Kevin Durant goes first to Team LeBron

It was a cool idea, but for some, there was one problem: We had no idea when the captains selected everyone to be on their teams.

Both teams were set Thursday, in the first ever televised NBA All-Star Draft, when LeBron James proposed a trade to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

LeBron kicked off the the fun draft by picking Kevin Durant.

As for the special roster additions in this season's exhibition game, James predictably drafted close friend Dwyane Wade over Dirk Nowitzki.

LeBron and AD will be teammates in a few weeks in Charlotte but they won't be teammates any other time this year, of course, as that big trade between the Lakers and Pelicans never happened.

However, the topic of team building wasn't just isolated to the Bucks' front office as the team's superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, tried his hand at filling out his All-Star team during Thursday night's All-Star Draft. He better pick me. Because at the end of the day, I'm still an all-star.

As the pair laughed over James' conundrum of playing against his protégé, the spirit of the National Basketball Association trade deadline took over, with James proposing a trade to send Russell Westbrook to Team Giannis in exchange for Simmons.

"I know Ben Simmons is your guy so I'll do it", Antetokounmpo said. Not only did Embiid lose the chance to play with his real-life teammate in the All-Star Game, he was stuck with Westbrook, who has made no bones of his dislike for Embiid.

"I didn't have to lobby for it", Wade said.

TNT's Charles Barkley used the Westbrook-Simmons swap to joke that Antetokounmpo should trade "everybody on his bench for Anthony Davis".

Antetokounmpo selected two centers, Orlando Magic's Nikola Vucevic and Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic alongside Detroit Pistons forward Nikola Jokic.

"Kevin Durant", Antetokounmpo said.

Note: Westbrook traded from Team LeBron for Simmons after draft.
