"There might be a time when I go into more detail about that situation, but right now I just want to focus on my new team, on the Dallas Mavericks".

As the Dallas Mavericks' head coach sat with owner Mark Cuban, general manager Donnie Nelson, and the four newest players on the roster, including Kristaps Porzingis, Carlisle didn't try to hide where his heart was.

Departing Knicks player Tim Hardaway Jr. got a sweet farewell from a favorite restaurant, we're told. Nothing more. That may have provided disappointment, if Porzingis stayed, for those expecting his return before the 2018-19 season ended, but the Knicks weren't in contention, so it didn't make sense to return him.

Knicks GM Scott Perry said the Knicks were aware of Porzingis' displeasure with the direction of the franchise in recent weeks. NY added point guard Dennis Smith Jr., the ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft, along with guard Wesley Matthews and center DeAndre Jordan.

Porzingis, 23, has known Doncic since both played in Spain.

When Porzingis was asked at his introductory press conference on Monday if he'd like to sign a long-term deal, Cuban quickly interjected: "I can answer that for you".

Knicks president Steve Mills said that Porzingis, a restricted free agent this summer, informed him that he "no longer wanted to be a part of our group" during a Thursday morning meeting.

Cuban interrupted a question for Porzingis on whether the player once considered the cornerstone of the NY franchise planned to sign long term with Dallas.

Dallas feels they have two superstars now.

The Knicks were convinced no team beyond the Mavericks was willing to offer cap space, a young player with upside and future first round picks.

Is this what Kristaps Porzingis meant when he said that the truth would come out?

Porzingis has averaged 17.8 points and 7.1 rebounds over 186 career appearances.
