The Women's March in Washington DC on Saturday was bracing for inclement weather and coping with an ideological split and reconfiguring its route due to the government shutdown. The initial crowd, which included people dodging snow plows, appeared to fall well short of that figure.

Leaders of both groups say they will use this year's marches to push policy related to raising the minimum wage, access to reproductive and healthcare and voting rights, among other issues.

Ms. Wasserman Schultz said she would march with a group unaffiliated with the Women's March. The weather has never been ideal. "So we will work through this as a women's movement because we are focused on what the real threat to this country is, and it is this administration and white supremacy".

Sydney Leidig, 19, of northwest suburban Algonquin stayed warm in her pink-eared knit cap, the icon of the movement from the original women's marches following the January 2017 inauguration of President Donald Trump.

"We must remember, an injustice against one of us is an injustice against all of us", she said later.

Megan Owens traveled all the way from downstate Quincy on the train Friday night to take part in the rally.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz's first experience with the Women's March left her feeling "electrified".

"I'm done talking about this", Mallory said.

One sign declared, "Strong women only fear weak men".

"I want to stand up for women", said Sarah Lofgren, 38, of west suburban Riverside.

"I believe that all people have the right to exist", she reiterated. The Women's March Alliance is stressing their denunciation of anti-Semitism, according to the New York Times report.

Two previous January events drew hundreds of thousands of people to Grant Park.

Sarsour wrote a November 2018 statement responding to the accusations, denying any bigotry and saying the organization was "deeply invested in building better and deeper relationships with the Jewish community".

Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe said the Women's March has become "toxic". In addition to the Federal Plaza rally, events were scheduled for Saturday in Geneva, New Lenox, Woodstock and Rockford.

In recent days, Democratic National Committee and several high-profile progressive advocacy groups have pulled their support in response to Mallory's defense of anti-semite and racist Nation of Islam head Louis Farrakhan in an interview with The View on Monday.

"It's wonderful to see all different types of women, all ages, people from all over coming together", she told Al Jazeera as the Washington, DC march was just getting under way. Mallory also had praised Farrakhan on social media.

WASHINGTON - A national movement for women's rights gathered for the third time in the capital on Saturday under cloudy skies and the shadow of an antisemitism crisis gripping its leadership.

While the founder of the Women's March a year ago called on its controversial cochairs to step down, they declined, and instead added to the official Women's March agenda a defense of the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement of Israel.
