Sony Music has made a decision to part ways with embattled R&B singer R. Kelly, who faces numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, according to reports.

The move comes after the broadcast of the LIFETIME TV documentary "Surviving R. KELLY", where several women accuses him of sexual misconduct of the past few years.

Campaigners from the #MuteRKelly pressure group delivered a petition signed by some 217,000 people to Sony headquarters in New York City earlier this week asking the record company to drop the musician.

That news came just hours after R. Kelly's former manager turned himself into law enforcement in Georgia over an outstanding warrant.

Kelly's labels stood by him through previous public allegations, including a 2008 trial on charges of child pornography, after he was accused in 2002 of making a video of himself having sex with a girl who was aged 13 or 14 at the time.

Kelly's attorney has denied the allegations.

Once a best-selling artist, R Kelly has been gradually isolated by the entertainment industry. Timothy and his wife have accused Kelly of abusing their daughter, who they say was brainwashed by the singer and blocked from communicating with her family. "If R. Kelly does not want to terminate the agreement and instigates a dispute saying that it's a breach of contract by RCA, if RCA is concerned about the cost of litigation and how a court might decide, they could try to come to a settlement with R. Kelly". R. Kelly could sue for damages.

However, the outcry that has followed Surviving R. Kelly grew so intense that it likely forced the label's hand.
