Report: Mike McCarthy has no interest in any other job outside of Jets

But according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, McCarthy doesn't want to be considered for any other head coaching vacancy other than the Jets'.

The Miami Dolphins dismissed Gase after going 7-9 during the 2018 regular season.

On the night that McCarthy was sacked by the Green Bay Packers, FanSided reported that the Browns were exploring hiring him.

McCarthy coached in Green Bay for 12 seasons and finished with a record of 135-85-2. Of course, NY did plenty of research on all their candidates, but it couldn't have hurt Gase's resume to have Manning go to bat for him.

During this hiring season, the Dolphins have been the quietest among the eight teams that are or were looking for new head coaches.

McCarthy, who took over the Packers in 2006, was sacked by the team in early December after it got off to a 4-7-1 start. Gase worked with Manning from 2012 through 2014-first as the Broncos' quarterbacks coach, and then as offensive coordinator. Gase left to join John Fox's staff with the Chicago Bears in 2015.

Gase will work closely with general manager Mike Maccagnan, who was retained by team chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson, to put together a competitive roster around Darnold. Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, Baylor head coach Matt Rhule-the preferred choice among some-wasn't quite as pliable.
