It's been a big day for the American, with the former actress also announced as Patron of the National Theatre and The Association of Commonwealth Universities, both roles she will take over from The Queen.

She also chose Smart Work, which helps long-term, unemployed women regain their skills, confidence and tools to do well in job interviews, as well as help with their transition back into employment.

Meghan made her first public appearance of 2019 on Thursday, paying a visit to one of her first patronages, Smart Works.

Smart Works is one of the four organizations which she has become Royal Patron of it was announced today by Kensington Palace.

"The Duchess of Sussex will become Patron of four organisations that reflect the causes and issues with which she has always been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women and animal welfare", the tweet read.

Ruma had been out of work for nearly a year before securing part-time role and is set to come back to the charity for a set of new outfits from the Dressing Room for her new job. Once they get the job, the organization provides five more articles of clothing to mix and match on the job.

Royal patronages are not necessarily for life and the younger royals usually have fewer patronages than older royals, as they steadily acquire more.

They added that the criticism is taking its toll on Harry who "feels responsible for Meghan being so miserable". Queen Elizabeth gifted the estate to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

"So to know, as a woman coming in, I would imagine, (knowing) that you have so many others believing in you, on all the next phases, is the piece that makes it so special". The Cotswolds home is meant to act as an interim home base as they await renovations on Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, which will be their new official residence starting this spring.
