"When I started this national search, I learned very quickly that he checked all the boxes of what I was looking for in our next football coach", said Shane Lyons, WVU director of athletics, in the announcement. There is no question that the Mountaineers are West Virginia's team, and I know our fans are going to love his energy, passion, work ethic and excitement that he is going to bring to our program.

Brown jumps to a Power 5 school after establishing a reputation as one of the hottest young coaches in the country in his four years at Troy. They won the 2017 Sun Belt Conference title and were co-Sun Belt East champions this past season.

Brown, who grew up in Bardstown before moving to Danville, was an all-state wide receiver at Boyle County High School. In his first season with the team, Brown compiled just a 4-8 record.

One of those interviewees was Troy head coach Neal Brown, and according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo! When Brown took over in 2015, the Trojans were coming off three losing seasons in four years.

Brown's Troy teams developed a reputation as giant-killers.

With Brown out, who might Troy hire? The Trojans ran the ball on 55.4 percent of their offensive plays in 2018, which ranked 49th nationally.
