Harris County Sheriff's Office released a statement overnight explaining the method with which they came to their conclusion - which also states that Eric Black confessed to taking part in Jazmine Barnes' killing, shortly after he was taken into custody without incident.

Before the arrest, police had released a sketch of the suspect Thursday compiled from descriptions from Jazmine's mother and three sisters.

Jazmine Barnes was shot and killed in the east part of Houston on December 30, while riding in a vehicle with her mother and three siblings. Officials stated that "all evidence gathered so far in the Jazmine Barnes Homicide case supports investigators' strong belief that she and her family were innocent victims".

Washington and Jazmine's father, Chris Cevilla, said they remain hopeful that their daughter's killer will be found.

However, the suspect is reportedly African American and the sheriff's office said that the shooting appears to be a case of mistaken identity. "We have to find out for all the little other Jazmine who are out there that could be in danger as well".

Currently, investigators do not think that the family was targeted intentionally, suggesting it was a possible case of "mistaken identity".

But investigators discovered Black also had been identified by an anonymous tipster as one of two suspects involved in the shooting death of Jazmine, according to the affidavit.

A $100,000 reward was being offered for information leading to an arrest in Jazmine's case.

It's been a week since someone in a red pick-up truck opened fire on a vehicle in the Houston area.

Earlier Saturday, community members held a rally near the business close to where the shooting took place, calling for justice for the slain girl.

A confidential source told the sheriff's office the people in Black's vehicle "shot the auto by mistake". He is being held in the Harris County Jail.

Shortly after Jazmine was killed, both the Harris County Sheriff's Office and Jazmine's mother said the shooting seemed unprovoked. Jazmine's death has prompted an outpouring of support for her family from across the country, including celebrities and sports stars.

Jazmine's funeral is due to take place on Tuesday.

According to the NFL, Hopkins is set to make $29,000 for Saturday's AFC Wild Card game against the Indianapolis Colts in Houston.

The Texans wide receiver announced on Twitter that he plans to donate his wild-card round playoff fee to Barnes' family to help cover the cost of the funeral.

"I've got a lovely angel up there watching over me", she said.
