US President Trump mocks PM Modi for funding library in Afghanistan says'don't know who's using

We want to help our people. Media reports have already indicated that this assertion is inaccurate and reeks of Mr. Trump's ignorance.

"India's position on Afghanistan has been consistent, principle-driven and strategically sound while the United States flip-flops have affected the Af-Pak region and even West Asia". Close bilateral consultations like this week's visit to Delhi of National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib may not always yield dramatic headlines, but are the basis of India's ability to help Afghanistan according to its needs, not India's ambitions, and the reason for the huge popularity and goodwill India continues to enjoy in Afghanistan. "Humanitarian needs to strategic economic partnership, we are one with our Afghani brothers & sisters", he said.

India encourages private investment in Afghanistan besides community development projects including in education, health, agriculture, irrigation, drinking water, renewable energy, flood control, micro-hydropower, sports infrastructure and administrative infrastructure.

While Trump's remarks about India were striking, the key headlines from the cabinet meeting in United States media was his seeming endorsement for the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan.

However, it was unclear what project was referred, but India has promised to provide assistance worth $3 billion to Afghanistan since 2001.

Trump referred to Modi as an example of how world leaders are talking about their contributions that were nowhere near the "billions of dollars" the U.S. was spending. "That's like five hours of what we spend", Trump said. "I'm not happy with what he (has) done in Afghanistan, and I shouldn't be happy".

"In regards to the library, Trump added that "(Modi) is very smart. "You know what that is?"

New Delhi has also provided 1.1 million tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan as well as a 400-bed children's hospital built in 1972 and renovated after the fall of the Taliban in 2002. But it's one of those things. This was the trigger for Trump to go on oft-used remarks that the USA is always taken advantage of by its allies, citing Afghanistan as an example.

"Hope our Govt responds firmly & reminds America that since 2004, India has built extensive roads, dams in Afghanistan & pledged over $3 billion in assistance".

U.S. President Donald Trump holds a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside the ASEAN Summit in Manila, Philippines on November 13, 2017. He is a great gentleman and a great man and he's done a fantastic job. "Delhi is probably third or fourth largest single country donor", sources said, adding it appears that the US President's statement is a matter of poor briefing by officials around him.

Last year India sent participated at Moscow talks on Afghanistan in which the Taliban also took part.

It's not known whether Modi repeatedly did this on his regard or if he was advised to do so, but either way, the Indian government must have known that he was constantly bragging about this to Trump. What a travesty & injustice. About a third (35 per cent) said it could still succeed while 16 per cent said they were not sure if the United States was succeeding or failing.
