A teenager has been arrested after a 24-year-old Taiwanese national was fatally stabbed at the Church of Scientology's Australasian headquarters in Sydney.

It is not clear whether the two victims were members of the Church of Scientology, and whether the attack happened in the centre or outside.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Jones fronted media a short time ago, confirming the 16-year-old had attended the facility in the early afternoon, and had been asked to leave the premises by staff at approximately 12:30pm.

The teen son of an Aussie Scientologist stabbed one of the church's employees to death Thursday following an incident with his mom, reports said. He was being escorted away by two men when he produced a 10-inch kitchen knife and reportedly attacked the pair.

A 24-year-old man, who police believe is of Taiwanese descent, had his throat slashed.

Police officers arrested the 16-year-old after drawing their stun guns as ambulance and fire crews arrived on the scene.

The Church of Scientology in Chatswood, Sydney, is spread over nearly 13,500 square metres, the largest branch outside the United States.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on the driveway to the church after the 16-year-old was asked to leave.

The second man, aged 30, was treated for minor cuts and is in a stable condition.

The Church of Scientology said it was providing the police with any assistance needed in the investigation.

The Daily Telegraph reported the family member was the teenage boy's mother, who he was trying to see.

The alleged attacker was asked to leave the centre "only and exclusively in relation to a domestic incident" Det Chief Insp Jones said.

"It's a huge building, a lot of people come from around Asia to study here".

A man at the centre's reception told news.com.au he had "no idea" about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"It offers a lot of services other (Scientology properties) don't".

According to ABC Australia, the Chatswood Scientology Centre is the largest Scientology facility outside the U.S and sprawls over a 145,000 square foot area.

The church, which claims up to 150,000 Australian followers, describes the Sydney complex on its website as providing "advanced religious services to Scientologists from across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region".

The site formerly housed the National Acoustic Laboratory and was purchased by the church for a reported $37m in 2014.
