Harry Kane scored against Wolves but he is yet to get a goal against Cardiff

Harry Kane ended his Cardiff hoodoo as Tottenham stayed in the Premier League title picture with a 3-0 win in the Welsh capital.

Cardiff have lost their last 15 Premier League matches against the "big six" sides, conceding 47 goals across those matches, with 25 of those goals conceded coming in their six defeats this season.

Kane's goal came off his shin, deflecting in a loose ball from a awful touch from Cardiff captain Sean Morrison after Kieran Trippier's cross from the right initially hit the England captain.

"I think it was so important to start the new year with a victory, away from home in a very hard place, against a team like Cardiff who came from beating Leicester".

Though the sight of constant jousting between Tottenham Hotspur's media officer and a reporter at Mauricio Pochettino's recent press conference descended into something resembling comedic tones, there was a serious undercurrent.

They toyed with Cardiff at times, and the third goal killed the game, with the "Ole" chants going up from the visiting fans after half an hour. "The goals were disappointing but they were too good for us in the first half".

Christian Eriksen has scored 19 goals from outside the box in the Premier League; the most of any player in the competition since his debut (September 2013).

Pochettino, who remains the bookmaker's favourite to get the full-time job at Manchester United, said the overall performance of his team had delighted him after Saturday's damaging 3-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"The energy we showed from the beginning was fantastic to dominate the game".
