7-year-old Houston girl shot dead while in car with her mom

Authorities are searching for a gunman after a 7-year-old girl was shot dead in a Walmart parking lot in Houston Sunday as the girl sat in her auto with her mother and three other children.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted that the suspect was driving a red pickup. The auto also sped away before it came to a stop and the woman called 911, authorities said. A 7-year-old girl was killed instantly.

Police said the shooter pulled his truck up alongside the woman's vehicle and fired into it, killing the girl.

A 7-year-old girl was killed in Texas Sunday after a man opened fire on the vehicle in which she was riding, authorities said. The girls mother, LaPorsha Washington, 33, was also shot.

Police said that some kind of altercation in the parking lot may have led to the shooting, and the gunman fired into the vehicle holding the five females, killing the girl and injuring the woman in her arm.

"I urge you, whoever did this, you know who are, please turn yourself in", said Major Jesse Razo, of the Harris County sheriff's office. "So senseless. It's never easy, and extra hard during the holiday season".

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s and has a beard.

The shooting took place at about 7 a.m.at Wallisville Road and the Texas 8 Beltway in the Harris County city of Cloverleaf, Razo said, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

"We're going to use all resources available to bring this killer to justice", Razo told reporters at the scene.

A mother, daughter and three others were leaving when a male began shooting into their auto, according to Harris County Sheriff's Office.
