The 37-year-old Federer is warming up for the Australian Open, which he has won for the last two years.

The 31st edition of the Hopman Cup has started in Perth on Saturday and the first victor was Great Britain who defeated Greece in the clash of four debutants at this event.

The Britons clinched the first set in the mixed doubles, but the Greeks fought back as Tsitsipas adjusted to his first-ever mixed doubles match.

Switzerland plays Britain on Sunday, and Germany's Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev take on Garbine Muguruza and David Ferrer of Spain.

Belinda Bencic and Roger Federer of Switzerland shake hands at the net after winning their mixed doubles match against Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter of Great Britain during day two of the 2019 Hopman Cup.

It was a similar story in the second set, as Norrie was unable to follow up his fine win over world No 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece on Saturday.

He had to save three break points in the opening game against Norrie but served his way out of trouble and was soon in complete control, as he raced into a 5-0 lead.

"This was a great start but obviously a long way to go here and in Melbourne", Federer said from Perth, Australia.

"A bit of polish is needed but it was nice to come out and play a pretty clean match", Barty said. He discovered his groove by dominating Norrie's serve and broke in the second game with a powerful cross-court backhand victor.

Norrie seemed momentarily inspired as he gained two break points before Federer once again recovered to close out the first set in 31 minutes.

The 20-time Grand Slam singles champion broke immediately in the second set and looked sharp as he cruised to an easy first-up victory in the tournament.

"It has always been fun coming here (Hopman Cup)", said Roger Federer.

World No. 2 Kerber beat Garbine Muguruza 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to snap a five-match losing streak against the two-time Grand Slam victor.

Norrie and Boulter then also lost the dead-rubber doubles match to their Swiss singles opponents 4-3 4-1.

The match-up is set to draw worldwide interest, and the players themselves are just as excited.
