Amazon's Shares Jump 6 Percent After Record-Breaking Holiday Sales

Amazon Sets Holiday Shopping Records

OneWorld Software's "Setup for Amazon Alexa" app, which was made available on the App Store last week, reportedly collects personal information such as IP address, mobile device ID, browser, location data, etc.

The record orders for Amazon were part of what appears to have been a good holiday season overall.

Amazon customers worldwide ordered more items than ever before this holiday season, according to the company.

If not, no worries - as Amazon is still offering some of its Alexa-range at discounted prices for Boxing Day and beyond.

The continued growth of the company's Alexa devices is especially impressive given the fierce competition it faces from other tech giants. The voice service also experienced a widespread outage in Europe in September.

Since Twitter was overflooded with complaints about Alexa not working, the customer support account for Amazon had to release the following statement: "some Echo devices in Europe have had intermittent connections".

People bought "millions more" of Amazon's own devices compared with previous year, including the new Echo Dot speaker and the Fire TV Stick, the Seattle-based company said.

Tens of millions of customers took advantage of an Amazon Prime membership by either signing up for a free trial or purchasing a paid membership during the holiday season.

Amazon's Alexa service required to set up the Echo Dot and other smart devices, with so many people receiving smart home devices as gifts on Christmas morning, the Alexa app saw a big surge in traffic.

The best-selling products across all categories on Amazon.ca included the All-New Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick 4K with All-New Alexa Voice Remote, Echo, and All-New Fire HD 8 Tablet. Are you surprised by the popularity of Amazon's Alexa?

Even though Amazon claims record sales, the company refuses to disclose specific amounts of either sales or Prime subscriptions. "Alexa, turn on the Christmas tree" was the number one request the assistant received. Along with the Christmas sales report, the picture seems much brighter than Amazon had initially projected in its latest earnings results.
