Modric scored the opening goal on 14 minutes at Zayed Sports City Stadium on Saturday to ensure this was one final he ended up on the winning side, after the Croatian captain suffered heartbreak in the World Cup final against France in the summer.

Real Madrid won another Club World Cup on Saturday afternoon and Santiago Solari, who became the first Argentine to win the trophy, gave praise to former coach Zinedine Zidane for making the latest triumph a possibility with last season's Champions League win.

"We had opportunities in the first half, but we missed them and at this level we pay when Real Madrid are in front".

There has been plenty of debate as to whether or not the club world championship tournament should be reformatted and those who argue that it should be were once again proven right by the way Real Madrid cruised in its two matches.

Madrid, which has won the last three Champions Leagues, has also won the last three Club World Cups.

"This tournament is very close to my heart, it is a wonderful tournament and I am leaving with a lot of happiness and satisfaction". The seriousness we put in this tournament and we played a great game tonight. "We have to realise that it's a very hard to play and achieve this feat", he said. "We are proud of our achievement, we will be happy and enjoy it".

A minute later the Champions League winners were in front as Vazquez delivered the ball from the right, Karim Benzema touched it to Modric and the Croatia worldwide curled a shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Madrid's home-grown midfielder Marcos Llorente doubled the European champions' lead on the hour-mark with a superbly struck volley from outside the area.

Real substitute Vinícius Júnior then burst through in stoppage time and fired in a shot that defender Yahia Nader diverted into his own net to complete the rout.

With Real Madrid cruising, Sergio Ramos added the third in the 79th minute, powerfully heading a Modric corner into the back of the net.
