Authorities arrest fiancé of missing Colorado mom on investigation of first-degree murder charge

Berreth's fiancé, Patrick Frazee, was arrested for first-degree murder and solicitation to commit first-degree murder Friday morning, almost one month after Berreth vanished, police said.

Police who confirmed Frazee's arrest on felony counts of suspicion of first-degree murder and solicitation to commit murder were mostly tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation, including whether Frazee allegedly hired someone to carry out the alleged killing or what might have been the motive.

The criminal affidavit in the case has been sealed until investigators can follow up on leads and feel confident the release of documents won't hurt the investigation, May said. Her mother has said financial struggles delayed them from moving in together but that her daughter was excited to get married.

De Young declined to comment on whether others were involved, but charges of solicitation to commit murder are defined as "actual soliciting, or seeking to engage another to commit a crime", which could imply that someone else participated in the crime.

Last weekend, authorities searched the property of Berreth's fiancé in Florissant, but they did not find any signs of the missing woman.

Berreth, 29, has been missing since Thanksgiving. However, De Young said that officials have not spoken directly to Frazee and were communicating through Loew.

Her body has not been found but information is helping narrow down the search, Woodland Park Police Chief Miles De Young said at a news conference Friday.

Her fiance Patrick Frazee was arrested Friday morning at his home in the community of Florissant, Colorado.

Patrick Frazee's arrest came almost one month after Berreth, the mother of his 1-year-old daughter, vanished on Thanksgiving Day near Woodland Park, a city between Denver and Colorado Springs.

Formal charges are pending and could take as long as 10 days to file, District Attorney Dan May said. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, meanwhile, were at the home of Berreth in Woodland Park on Wednesday and again on Thursday night.

Frazee is being held without bond pending his next court appearance, set for December 31, KMGH reported.

Surveillance video showed her entering the store on Thanksgiving Day with what appears to be the couple's daughter in a baby carrier.

Berreth's disappearance was officially labeled a missing-person investigation until Friday, but De Young did call her disappearance "suspicious" last week and pleaded with Frazee to "sit down with investigators". Kelsey loves her God, she loves her family and friends, and she loves her job.

Kelsey Berreth was "a little reserved and sometimes soft-spoken" but often talked about Frazee, whom she was dating when she was a flight instructor at Springs Aviation in 2016, company owner Bobby Hosmer said. "This is completely out of character". Investigators believe her fiancé, Patrick Frazee, was the last person to see her alive. "She's reliable, considerate and honest".
