Nothing seemed too abnormal when the Celtics locker room finally opened Friday night.

Devin Booker had 25 points and eight assists, and rookie Deandre Ayton added 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead the suddenly resurgent Suns past the Boston Celtics 111-103 on Wednesday night.

So, what was responsible for the delay?

Sometimes the team meeting can include coaches, and sometimes it needs to be the even rarer "players-only meeting".

Said Kyrie Irving: "It breaks people's spirit, getting offensive rebounds, getting new possessions and converting off of that". "It's about us. We're trying to be a unit".

It was an answer that immediately added strain to an already tense locker room as the Celtics point guard proceeded to provide insight to the challenges a championship-contending team faces throughout the course of an National Basketball Association season.

Baynes blocked Ayton's pass and shook his hand in visible pain before heading to the locker room during a stoppage in play. "It's not for everybody to know what we talked about".

"If I get on any social media (site) I'm going to hear about it all day when this game's coming up", Booker said, smiling.

Because players wouldn't divulge the details of the meeting, it's unknown who initiated the conversation, who contributed, what was addressed, and how the messages were communicated.

"We had multiple conversations when we were losing early in the year", Booker said. "It's more about maintenance and survival right now". The Celtics trail the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers. One discussion isn't going to suddenly make everything copacetic - as Brown noted, the team might need "a few more" - though openly acknowledging shortcomings should, in theory, only help.

"I think it started after the first quarter", Irving said.

"I think everyone can see that we've obviously had some inconsistencies regarding our play, so I think it was just time to address it".

Irving, who has not been afraid to call out the team's inefficient and uninspiring play this season, was more specific with his criticism this time around, identifying an example of how there's been some "selfish play" of late.

"I don't want to put too much pressure on him, where he's got to step on the floor and score 35 points for us", Kokoskov said in anticipation of Oubre's debut.
