Yuvraj Singh had played for Kings XI Punjab a year ago but he was released after scoring only 65 runs from eight matches.

Indian duo Jaydev Unadkat (Rajasthan Royals) and Varun Chakravarthy (Kings XI Punjab) were the highest sold for NZ$1.7m.

Mumbai Indians paid Rs one crore for Yuvraj Singh in a last-minute buy and franchise owner Akash Ambai called it their biggest steal in the tournament's 11-year-old history.

Malinga made a decision to come back into the auction pool and put himself in the 20 million Indian Rupees price bracket for the upcoming IPL 2019.

Medium pacer Jaydev Unadkat became a millionaire once again with a Rs 8.4 crore bid from Rajasthan Royals but the spotlight was firmly on Chakravarthy, the 27-year-old mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu who gave up a career as freelance architect to pursue cricket.

Sam Curran, who was India's tormentor in England during the five-match Test series, was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 7.20 crore in a fierce three-way bidding war amongst Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Capped Indian players were in demand and so were the West Indians before a 15-minute tea break at the auction.
