A ‘Robot’ At A Youth Forum In Russia Was Actually Just Some Guy In A Suit

The "robot" called Boris was displayed at an annual youth forum that was the brainchild of President Putin in Yaroslavl, northeast of Moscow.

A robot that appeared on Russian State Television as an example of the country's technological prowess has been revealed to be nothing more than a man in a suit.

Boris was shown on stage with co-hosts using dance moves so realistic that your dad would proudly use them at a wedding.

That's right: Images later posted on social media showed giggling kids chatting to Boris, complete with two inches of neck and what seemed like the beginning of a healthy head of human hair.

MBKh Media insisted that the event's organisers did not try to pass off the robot as real, despite it being described as such on state television.

"I know mathematics well but I also want to learn to draw", Boris responded, before dancing to the Little Big song Skibidi. Meet's costume "Robot Alyosha", - stated in the material.

The work of Boris even dedicated part of the story the journalists of "Russia 24".

Organizers are quoted as saying: "It's entirely possible one of these [students] could dedicate himself to robotics".

When approached for comment by the Guardian for comment the organizers claimed the show was not meant to trick people into believing Boris was a robot but rather that it was a "fun" way to generate interest in Stem fields.

As the questions mounted, it emerged that Boris was a £3000 costume made by the company Show Robots created to give the "near total illusion that before you stands a real robot", equipped with microphone and tablet display.

If this robot is what Russian Federation 24 reported, it would be an astonishing advance in robotics and a huge leap into the uncanny valley.
