REMEMBERING BUSH D.C. bids farewell to 41st president

It was his first North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meeting in 1989, and as a parade of world leaders took turns at the podium, newly elected USA president George H.W. Bush was taking a lot of notes. A WWII combat veteran, Bush served as a member of Congress from Texas, ambassador to the United Nations, director of the Central Intelligence Agency, vice president and 41st president of the United States.

Former president George W. Bush was seated with the rest of the Bush family, across the aisle.

George P. Bush, the former president's grandson and the only member of the political dynasty still holding elected office, as Texas land commissioner, subsequently struck a more personal tone with the man he and the younger generations called "gampy".

It was a rare public sighting from Noelle, who avoids the spotlight and did not join her father Jeb on the campaign trail when he ran for president in 2016. This is not a funeral, this is a day of celebration for a great man who has led a long and distinguished life.

Speaking to Shannon Bream on Tuesday, the national radio host said the mainstream media acted in a "vicious and partisan" way toward Bush 41 when he was president, similar to the treatment of other Republicans.

On Wednesday, the former president received a state funeral at Washington National Cathedral in the nation's capital, with all five living presidents in attendance. "It's called leadership. When George Bush was president of the United States of America, every single head of government in the world knew that they were dealing with a gentleman, a genuine leader, one who was distinguished, resolute and courageous". Bush was a Navy pilot who was shot down during World War II.

As Cuomo argued that shaking hands with Trump showed that, Lemon doubled down, "That's why he's president and I'm not". It is also bringing together world envoys, the four remaining ex-presidents, and President Trump.

It was a light moment after an emotional week that H.W.'s son, President George W. Bush, seemed to enjoy hardily in the front pew. His wife Hillary - Trump's former rival - looked straight ahead, despite nodding in acknowledgment to a greeting from Melania.

The late Bush's feelings about Trump were harsh at times.

"I was struck then by his graciousness, his interest in and enthusiasm for Canada - but he was just an extraordinarily gracious person", Brison said. His final resting place is alongside his wife and Robin Bush, the daughter they lost to leukemia at age 3.
