The Buckeyes won at least 10 games in each of Meyer's seven seasons with the school, a run that was highlighted by a national championship in 2014 when Ohio State went 14-1 and rolled to the title win over Oregon.

Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith said during a Tuesday afternoon press conference that Meyer will move into a new role at Ohio State where he will guide all coaches to maximize their results. The cyst was diagnosed in 1998 but worsened the past few years, and Meyer dropped to his knees on the sideline during an October game against in and often looked distressed during games, rubbing his head and wincing.

He was also battered this year by an offseason issue involving a now-fired assistant coach that led to Meyer's suspension for the first three games of the season. He has a 54-4 record in Big Ten games and has won three national championships - one at Ohio State and two with the Florida Gators.

Meyer owns an 85-9 record in seven seasons with the Buckeyes.

Meyer got his start as a head coach at Bowling Green from 2001-02, where he went 17-6 and 11-5 in the MAC.

It's not the first time that Meyer's health has had an impact on his coaching career. He has three national championships on his resume, including one with OSU in 2014 and two with Florida in 2006 and 2008.

There was even speculation back in September that Day was being groomed in a sort of coach-in-waiting situation if or when Meyer made a decision to step away from coaching. Ohio State has one of the country's top 2019 classes and it will be really important for Day and Co.to keep that class together.

Recruitment: Meyer was hired as the head football coach at Ohio State on November 28, 2011.

"Ryan Day is the best thing to happen to the Ohio State offense since the absence of Tom Herman". UF posted its worst mark under Meyer at 8-5 in 2010, and he again chose to retire after the season, citing health concerns. "He shouldn't be coaching, and I would argue that he shouldn't have been coaching the last month".

"I believe I will not coach again, Meyer said".

Former Boston College quarterback Tyler Murphy, who was with Day for a year after transferring from Florida, remembers Day as a more laid-back coach as well, someone who doesn't yell unless he's not seeing effort from his players or is forced to repeat himself multiple times.

"As hard a time as it was, that didn't have as much of on the headaches but it did have an impact", Meyer said.
