Met Éireann warns that Storm Diana will lash country with rain and high winds

The Iceland Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for most parts of Iceland for tomorrow and until midnight on Thursday.

Severe rainfall will affect other parts of the United Kingdom, with the storm expected to bring between 60mm and 80mm of rain.

Wind gusts of 60 miles per hour are expected, while some exposed areas could see gust of 70 miles per hour.

The strongest winds on Thursday were of up to 82mph, measured at Needles Old Battery on the Isle of Wight, whilst St Mary's Airport on the Isles of Scilly saw gales of up to 74mph.

As for today, Met Éireann's outlook is: "Overcast wet and very blustery this morning with heavy spells of rain, gales and severe gusts".

Further afield, Storm Diana has been named by IPMA (the official Portuguese Meteorological Authority) because of its expected impacts in the Azores on Tuesday.

A yellow weather warning highlighting strong winds and heavy rain was issued by the Met Office for eastern areas of the province. Mild, top temperatures 13 to 15 C. High sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds.

"During tomorrow winds across a large portion of the country may gust as high as 110 km/h with the strongest winds likely in southern, western and northwestern areas".

Lowest temperatures will be felt in Northern Ireland, with Derry at about 46.4F (8C) and similar levels in Dumfries, Stornoway and Glasgow.

The forecast wind direction is West South West and the forecast wind strength is Force 7. Rain will be heavy at times.

Severe weather is now hitting Britain and is expected to last into the middle of the day with over an inch of rain expected in some parts.

"The worst place is on the west coast". Winds mainly fresh from the southwest.
