Pakistan and India begin construction of 'corridor of peace'

The Indian cabinet approved the building and development of the so called Kartarpur corridor last week, a five kilometer (3.1 miles) long passage to connect two Sikh temples on either side of the border between India and Pakistan due to open in 2019. "Just imagine the potential we have if our relationships get stronger".

Hailing his old friend's efforts, Navjot Singh Sidhu said, Imran Khan had become a key that can open all locks.

The loosening of border controls for the pilgrims is "a step towards peace which our region needs", Pakistan's Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said while attending the Kartarpur Corridor ceremony.

All we need is just two leaderships on both sides of the border to solve this issue.

"#Kashmir finds a mention at the groundbreaking of the #KartarpuraCorridor".

"If India takes one step forward, we will take two steps forward in friendship", he reiterated. "Makes it sound so simple", Omar wrote on twitter.

Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan on Wednesday said that Bollywood, the Indian film industry, tried to discredit Pakistan after the incident of 9/11.

Sidhu said his parents used to see Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, which is just 4 km from the Gurdaspur border, from a distance and return with tears in their eyes as they could go no further. It was after this visit that the issue of the Kartarpur Corridor had come into focus. "Express gratitude also to Pakistan government".

Sardesai cited political pressure as a reason for India reluctance to resume peace talks with Pakistan. "But as Imran Khan said the world has moved on from worse". "I assure you that we can solve this problem. Because, as I said, that unless and until Pakistan stops terrorist activities in India, there will be no dialogue and we will not participate in SAARC", Swaraj told a press conference. The Gurdwara was home to Guru Nanak Dev, one of the leaders of the faith for 18 years and he died there in 1539.

Subsequently, the Pakistan government in September 2018, chose to open the corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak for visa-free entry of Indian Sikhs from India to Pakistan.

Former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday led a delegation of his country to attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Pakistan's invitation. "And for the first time, Pakistan has responded positively to this".

India had proposed the corridor to Pakistan around 20 years back. Pakistan has warmly welcomed and initiated the ground-breaking ceremony and extended their hands in welcome to the Indian ministers and journalists on the occasion.
