And weeks before that, his son Donald Trump Jr., son-in-law Jared Kushner and Manafort had met with Russians at Trump's campaign headquarters in NY after the Russians had promised "dirt" on Clinton.

WikiLeaks is so confident of its claim, that it announced it's willing to put its money - and Assange's life - on the table.

His long-standing relationship with an oligarch close to Russian President Vladimir Putin was another reason Manafort's cooperation was seen as important to Mueller's probe. The next month they hacked into the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee.

Assange has been holed up at the embassy since 2012 out of fear that should he leave, he would be extradited to the USA and face charges for leaking thousands of classified documents.

If these reports are true, they would be extremely damaging to Manafort, Assange and many individuals within the Trump campaign, likely including the president himself. It's unclear what the campaign chairman and the WikiLeaks chief discussed at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, according to the Guardian, but the episode could be a key link for investigators probing possible conspiracy between the campaign and the Kremlin to sway the 2016 us presidential election in Trump's favor.

Sources have said Manafort went to see Assange in 2013, 2015 and in spring 2016 - during the period when he was made a key figure in Trump's push for the White House. The source for this is an internal document written by Ecuador's Senain intelligence agency, which lists a "Paul Manaford" as one of several of Assange's guests.

Mueller has been interviewing Stone associates for months.

"There's no proof that Trump colluded with the Russians". "Manafort doesn't know about collusion".

He then launched into an attack on Mueller's investigation and team of prosecutors, who he claimed are unduly coercing Manafort. "Nobody's dying, nobody's being abused, nobody's being sexually assaulted", he said, calling Mueller's probe "bullshit" and his prosecutors "bozos" for putting Manafort in solitary confinement while awaiting sentencing. You're not God. Mueller is not reining them in.

Manafort pleaded guilty to conspiracy and witness tampering on September 14, nearly a year after he was first charged and following his conviction by a jury in a separate but related case on eight tax and banking crimes.

Manafort reportedly violated his plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller by lying to prosecutors, and now this report and WikiLeaks' $1 million denial has come forward.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
