Unai Emery says Arsenal lost their way under Arsène Wenger

Incredible own goal and Aubameyang give Arsenal win at Bournemouth

The Gunners travel to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon as Premier League action returns following the global break.

Emery told Spanish newspaper Marca in an interview this week that one of his main tasks was to rebuild Arsenal's defensive structure without losing the focus on attacking football that Arsene Wenger brought to the club.

Unai Emery seems to have revived Arsenal from the malaise that had set in under Arsene Wenger and now the Gunners' boss has fired shots at his predecessor about where the problems were with Wenger's team.

"Then with Arsene, joy was taken from attacking too and the ideal blend was the "Invincibles" team".

Emery also said the players had a long way to go, despite the good start, and any information Wenger had given him wasn't used, adding, "I met once with him, and little else".

The manager said he expected more from his team, who have drawn in their last three matches in the league, starting with the trip to ninth-placed Bournemouth. Arsenal was in decline.

"I have said to myself it is a positive thing, but it can also be negative, that you are too heavy, want to interfere with the players a lot", Emery said. "The process with him in this worldwide break is to finish training with us every day to start playing, little by little".

However, Arsenal responded in style with a seven-game winning run to mount an impressive top-four challenge and close ground on Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur. Everyone was happy against Liverpool [1-1 draw] but we only drew. He, in the press match conference, said, "We just approach the game in the same way we do any team, we watch them and analyze them and we make our game plans around what we have seen". "We need to be demanding and here I want every player to be at that high level".

Though Arsenal have shown significant improvement since the back-end of Wenger's spell, Emery feels there is plenty of room for improvement.
