Skype calling arriving soon for Amazon Echo devices

Though we've covered all Amazon hardware in a separate listing, but here we are with the complete set of deals on Echo devices, packing Amazon Alexa.

To clarify, you read that right and this fantastic deal actually works - don't believe us?!

It was already possible to make calls and video calls with Alexa devices, but Skype is a huge, cross-platform service, so being able to make calls with it through Alexa is a big get for Amazon and a potential selling point for Echo devices. Skype announced this news on its blog post and noted that its mission has always been to bring people together.

As a bonus, Microsoft will give you 100 minutes of Skype to mobile or landline calling per month for your first two months after linking to Alexa. In the Alexa app, go to Settings Communication Skype and sign in using the same Microsoft account you use on Skype. Additionally, Slashgear noted that the partnership with Amazon also includes features like Skype calls via Alexa devices. This adds to the users' ease as they can make a call without touching their smartphones. It is worth noting that Skype calling with Alexa is available in India along with other countries including US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. At last count, Skype had around 300 million monthly active users - a fairly substantial number.
