Socceroo's Champions League dream becomes a nightmare

Hugo Lloris is banned for Spurs' Champions League game against PSV this week

Now, ahead of Tuesday's must-win Champions League game at home to PSV Eindhoven, Lloris has challenged his team-mates to be smarter.

The Dutch team had defended stoutly after Luuk De Jong's opening goal, a header from a corner, but was finally breached when Kane met a lay-off from substitute Fernando Llorente with a left-footed shot into the corner.

Kane once again came to Tottenham's rescue.

Only in Pochettino's first season in charge - the 2014-15 campaign - have Spurs posed less of a goal threat. Hopefully, we can put ourselves in a position where, when we have two or three home games in a row, we're able to take advantage of it.

While the Premier League giants have found it tough in Italy, they should be optimistic of taking their Champions League fate down to the final round of group games by winning at Wembley on November 28.

The teams should be with us soon, at which point we'll know how Spurs intend to approach this one but it's more than likely it'll be in that same 4-2-3-1 we've seen recently, with Harry Kane the focal point.

PSV contained Tottenham into the second half and just before the hour mark, they got two good chances to make it 2-0. Donyell Malen nearly curtailed the Tottenham celebrations, but his rocket from the edge of the area was pushed away by Paulo Gazzaniga.

With Spurs requiring nothing less than a victory and with Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier all sidelined through various knocks and niggles, Pochettino selected five of his most attacking players from the start with Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura all providing support to the main man up top.

The expected goals [xG] against them this season is a whopping 1.33 - more than 0.35 higher than at any other point over the past three seasons.

As for PSV, they will be relishing the opportunity to leap above their Group B rivals and stake their claim for Europa League football.

"It's s***", Van Bommel said of the pitch.

PSV are in last place on one point. Spurs will be without Jan Vertonghen, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

It was the quickest goal Tottenham had conceded in the Champions League, but the blow sparked them into mounting a sustained period of pressure on the PSV goal.
