Kemp, Abrams denounce racist robocall

'I approve this message': Oprah makes rare political appearance in support of Georgian candidate

Kemp has previously said he wouldn't recuse himself as Georgia's secretary of state if his race with Abrams goes to a recount, even though his office would be overseeing that process.

On Saturday, it was reported that racist robocalls bankrolled by white supremacists were targeting Abrams and Winfrey.

Abrams would be the first black female governor in American history, and she's sought the post as an unapologetic liberal trying to draw new voters to the polls and prove that Georgia's growth and diversity make it a legitimate two-party battleground. Abrams has called for Kemp to resign.

As Winfrey was speaking, Vice President Mike Pence was in Dalton, about 70 miles north of Marietta, to add his support to Kemp.

The robocall says it was paid for by The Road to Power, a group organized by Scott Rhodes of Idaho. The neo-Nazi group also targeted Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum in September.

Oprah Winfrey is literally going door-to-door in Georgia to help canvas for Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

Ms Winfrey called Ms Abrams a "changemaker" who represented the values of all Georgians, where Atlanta is the capital city.

"I've heard nothing about it", Abrams told CNN's "State Of The Union" when asked about the investigation.

"Georgia has always been on a path of change and evolution", Abrams said.

She touts her experience working with Republicans as a state legislative leader, but she doesn't back down on her promises to expand Medicaid insurance, prioritise public education and push for tighter gun restrictions.

U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross granted an injunction, ordering Kemp to allow people previously flagged as ineligible to vote if they present proof of citizenship to county election officials.

"For anybody here who has an ancestor who didn't have the right to vote, and you are choosing not to vote - wherever you are in this state, in this country - you are dishonouring your family", she said.

The Republican Party has held Georgia's governor position since 2003.

As a TV crew from MSNBC tried to film the hecklers being removed, a Kemp supporter physically blocked their path and the view of their lens.

Polling in the race is extremely close, most analysts rating the outcome a toss-up. Pence is scheduled to appear with Republican nominee Brian Kemp at three rallies around the state.

Tensions grew after an Associated Press report in early October that more than 53,000 voter applications - almost 70 percent of them from black applicants - were on hold with Kemp's office ahead of the election.

Georgia, however, is home to a booming film industry, thanks to more than $1 billion in tax credits over the past decade, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
