iOS 12.1 Group FaceTime Compatibility: Will Your Device Support It?

Some users are claiming this issue may be related to those running iOS 12.1 beta on their iPhone.

Apple just announced that it will be rolling out its iOS 12.1 update, for the iPhone and the iPad, starting today.

When it launched the Apple Watch Series 4 in September, Apple dwelled for some time on the new wearable's electrocardiogram (ECG) feature.

With iOS 12 Apple insisted all its devices would be treated to a noticeable speed boost.

Will you be downloading the update? All that said, Apple's work with iOS 12 is far from over.

Following the introduction of the iPhone X past year, and a full lineup of X-inspired devices this fall, Apple has also updated the smartphone emoji in iOS 12.1 to show a bezel-free iPhone design.

iOS 12.1 is likely to make its public debut sometime this week. Some of the notable feature include Dual Sim support, Group FaceTime and more.

iOS 12.1 brings dual SIM support, too. Originally introduced at WWDC this past June, the feature didn't ship with the first incarnation of iOS 12. With this feature, you can FaceTime with up to 32 people, and the person who's speaking will automatically be placed front and center. Nonetheless, some of the other features Group FaceTime brings to the table are listed below.

FaceTime now uses on-device intelligence to display the most prominent speakers on the call, automatically highlighting the current speaker by bringing them to the forefront. The size of the person's image then changes depending on how active they are being on the call. To bring up the depth control slider inside Camera, tap the new "f" icon in the upper right corner, then adjust to your heart's content and see in real-time what the finished product will look like.

When calling more than one person, FaceTime will show a notification that'll let you instantly join a call without being distruptive, and Apple also says that all FaceTime calls are end-to-end encrypted so that they remain private.

Group FaceTime is integrated into Messages, so you can initiate a group call from within that app.
