Explosive devices sent to Obama, Clintons; CNN evacuated

The Secret Service intercepted a bomb addressed to Mrs Clinton at the home she shares with former president Bill Clinton in Chappaqua, New York, and another that was sent to former president Barack Obama at his family home in Washington. Florida Democratic member of Congress Debbie Wasserman Schultz's office in Florida was also evacuated after a suspicious package was received.

President Jeffrey Zucker cited Trump's treatment of the media following his company's NY office receiving a suspicious package which resembled a pipe bomb on Wednesday.

Potential bombs were discovered by the Secret Service during a routine screening of post addressed to Clinton in Westchester County, New York yesterday and Obama in Washington, DC this morning.

On Thursday morning, police were investigating a suspicious package at a building in the Tribeca section of New York City that houses a restaurant owned by actor Robert De Niro, according to NBC's New York affiliate.

These incidents came after an explosive device was found in the mailbox at the suburban home of billionaire philanthropist George Soros.

The White House, in a statement, condemned the attempted attacks on Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton. "These terrorist actions must be prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law, we all know that".

The targets of the bombs were some of the figures most frequently criticised by president Donald Trump.

Early reports by CNN anchors on Twitter are also stating the network's NY office has been evacuated, and the NY police department's bomb squad is at the scene. A spokesperson for Hillary Clinton referred queries to the Secret Service statement.

A USA official told The Associated Press that investigators believe the explosive that was discovered near the Clintons' home in Chappaqua, New York, is linked to one found Monday at the compound of liberal billionaire George Soros.

The bomb squad is on scene.

On Wednesday, explosives were found in mail addressed to Hillary Clinton, the Obamas, and CNN.

"There is a total and complete lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media", Zucker said. A U.S. official told the Associated Press that a "functional explosive device" was found during a screening of mail sent to the home of Mr and Mrs Clinton in Chappaqua, New York.

"We've seen this before, we've seen worse, and we will not be intimidated and we will bring these perpetrators to justice", NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill said at the same news conference.
