Mail-bomb scare widens as packages to Biden, De Niro seized

Federal Bureau of Investigation and local authorities are responding to two scenes at Delaware post offices, which Delaware State Police said were in Wilmington and New Castle.

De Niro, who received a loud ovation when he hurled an obscenity at Trump at the Tony Awards last June, also was targeted, the official said.

The FBI says the packages are consistent with the ones sent to other leading Democrats.

A package addressed to Joe Biden was intercepted in Delaware.

The address, 375 Greenwich St., matches that of the Tribeca Film Center as well as De Niro's Tribeca Grill restaurant.

Tribeca Enterprises co-founder Jane Rosenthal said Thursday that the building was evacuated after the package was found, but that it has been re-opened.

With every intercepted pipe bomb, panic spread from NY, to Washington, to Florida and Los Angeles.

At least eight parcels were intercepted before reaching any intended recipients, including Obama's attorney-general, Eric Holder, former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan and prominent Democratic Party donor George Soros.

One of the targets in a string of mail bombs is telling President Donald Trump to stop blaming others for the anger in society.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell has obtained a photo of the package intended for Biden that was intercepted at a Wilmington, Delaware post office. Like the envelope sent to Holder, it was misaddressed and was being redirected to the return sender written on the mailing label, Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. A suspicious package sent to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, was in fact a thumb drive, according to the NYPD. It matches the description of those sent to the other officials. The former Central Intelligence Agency director frequently appears on CNN.

According to police, the device appears to be a similar device to the ones sent to top Democrats including former President Barack Obama and 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, as well as her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

A suspicious package addressed to Biden was found at a mail facility in New Castle County in DE, a federal law enforcement official told Reuters.

Late Wednesday night, it was reported that a similar package addressed to Biden's DE home. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's office in Sunrise have been removed by law enforcement.

"I have been in direct contact with the FBI and other law enforcement officials who are working tirelessly on this investigation, and I am grateful for their efforts to keep us safe". The Los Angeles Police Department said it was investigating another package found at a mail facility near Downtown Los Angeles.

A second law enforcement official told CNN on Thursday that federal investigators were in Florida, chasing down leads.

The NYPD bomb squad responded and examined the device under an X-ray.

An initial examination shows they are are rudimentary but functional, and have similar construction.

Authorities said on Wednesday the pipe bombs were packed with shards of glass and were intercepted.

It comes after authorities confirmed seven pipe bombs stashed in manila enveloped were discovered this week addressed to six prominent Trump critics.

The package contained an envelope of white powder that experts were analyzing, New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. Others have called the bombs a "false flag" - an operation created to frame a rival - in this case, Trump supporters.

The devices had suspicious-looking packaging, at least one had a timer easily bought for a few dollars online and easily detected when mailed or delivered.

The first package was sent to George Soros, a billionaire philanthropist and target of right-wing conspiracy theories, on Monday, the AP reports.

"Whoever is doing this is just trying to elicit a fear or disrupt something", Morris said.
