Democrat Opens Up Lead in Crucial Florida Senate RaceMore
Andrew Gillum was fighting off "smear tactics" and said he was ready to talk about the "issues" in the hours ahead of his Florida gubernatorial debate rematch against Republican Ron DeSantis on Wednesday night in West Palm Beach.
"Some of this is generationally driven". I can tell you, we're not doing it.
In an August 8, 2016 message, Gillum's friend, lobbyist Adam Corey, texted him saying, "Mike Miller and the crew have tickets for us for Hamilton tonight at 8pm", adding, "I think your brother has already arrived by the way".
The event ended with a DJ playing a trap Gillum campaign song over the PA system.
DeSantis has said that the phrase was not intended as a "dog whistle". "It was disappointing to see it disintegrate into personal attacks, and it makes it hard for people who are encouraging civic engagement".
Gillum has not been charged with any crime, and it is unclear whether Gillum repaid the undercover agent in some way for his role in obtaining the tickets.
"How the hell am I supposed to know every statement everyone makes?" His campaign has said the ticket was given to him by his brother Marcus, who attended the show with him, the agent and Corey, who volunteered as finance chair on Gillum's 2014 mayoral campaign.
He also pointed out that the National Rifle Association endorses DeSantis, as has President Trump.
Text messages between Gillum and former lobbyist Adam Corey, who arranged outings with undercover agents looking into city government corruption, were among more than 100 pages of records Corey gave the ethics commission, which is investigating trips to Costa Rica and NY that Gillum took in 2016...
That's when the discourse between DeSantis and Gillum turned nasty. "And when I got there after work, got my ticket, we went in and saw it, assumed my brother paid for it, and so far as I know, that was the deal". "I'm simply saying the racists believe he is a racist". Today, Gillum stuck to his story claiming the ticket came from his brother. "I don't take free trips from anybody". But I am not going to bow down to the altar of political correctness. In September, Kise said his client never received money from Gillum.
Gillum said he would have pushed for a stronger bill than Scott signed. The document dump has put Gillum-who has led in poll after poll-on the defensive and threatens his momentum with less than two weeks until Election Day.
DeSantis replied, "Businesses will leave the state, people will lose jobs and we'll stop people from investing in Florida".
'If we do that, we will pull down $6 billion from the federal government that will go into this state's health care system, so we can hire more doctors, more nurses, more nurse practitioners, ' Gillum said.
'Some people were paying more for premiums than for rent, so people couldn't afford it.
"Andrew's running on impeaching Trump".
