"Nobody has told me he is responsible". "I knew it was a trap and just left with my expired passport".

She said Norway was waiting for a "credible" explanation from the regime in Riyadh.

"If it weren't for the kindness of God I would have been (another) victim", Sharif said in a tweet.

Turkish officials say the Turkish president and his American counterpart have spoken over the phone and discussed the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The crown prince, who is known in diplomatic circles as "MBS", has drawn some praise in the West for his moves to modernize the kingdom and criticism for his government's arrests of rivals and critics. "All of this needs to be explained in all its details", Erdogan said.

"We can not close this file until the crown prince is brought to account and removed from his post".

"The issue now is how Western governments coordinate a response and to what extent they wish to escalate this in a coordinated fashion", said Michael Stephens, a senior research fellow who focuses on the Mideast at London's Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies.

The killing of Jamal Khashoggi was "a violently planned" murder that was subsequently covered up, the spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party said Monday.

He gave no details about how Khashoggi died, save for describing the killing as "ferocious". "The more one thinks about it, the more it feels like our intelligence is being mocked".

Saudi authorities have shifted their narrative on what happened to Khashoggi, now saying he died as a result of a fistfight, after weeks of denying any involvement in his disappearance. He added: "We will know very soon".

The official also dismissed claims of "bargaining" between Saudi Arabia and Turkey as "immoral". The Saudi officials claim that he was killed in a "fist fight" which broke out in the consulate building.

The Saudi explanation - that an argument in the consulate led to a fatal brawl - is at odds with the conclusions of Turkish investigators, who believe that Khashoggi was deliberately killed by Saudi agents who had been dispatched to Istanbul for the objective.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency announced the calls to Khashoggi's son, Salah, early on Monday morning.

By nightfall, Turkish police began searching an underground vehicle parking garage in Istanbul's Sultangazi district.

Khashoggi went missing after entering the consulate to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage.

"If Saudi state involvement is indeed proven, the worldwide community must stand firm in its stated resolve to insist on the highest level of investigation and punishment for those responsible - both for the perpetrators of this horrendous crime and the masterminds who ordered it". "This was an operation where individuals ended up exceeding the authorities and responsibilities they had".

The video was taken by Turkish law enforcement and shown Monday on CNN, suggesting Saudi agents used a body double in an effort to hide the murder. Our condolences go out to them.

The president spoke to the media at a defence roundtable in Arizona hours after Saudi Arabia claimed that Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor last seen on October 2, was killed in a "fistfight" at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry also said on Monday that the murder of Jamal Khashoggi should act as a wake-up call. He added that an investigating team in Turkey found evidence contradicting earlier reports that Khashoggi left the consulate after his visit October 2.
