The end to Jamal Khashoggi murder investigation is in sight

A local Saudi news agency said that the Monarch, Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his son, Mohammed bin Salman, telephoned Salah Jamal Khashoggi to express their condolences.

He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this month to sort out divorce papers.

After days of denying knowledge of his whereabouts, Saudi Arabia on Saturday claimed Khashoggi died during a fight inside the consulate.

The remarks came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that he would reveal more about the investigation on Tuesday.

19 Oct Saudi Arabia acknowledged for the first time that the journalist Hashagg killed at the Consulate in Istanbul. Riyadh also said that 18 people had been arrested over their involvement in the incident.

Some governments and prominent executives have said they would pull out of a forthcoming investment conference in Saudi Arabia.

Pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak, citing the audio, said his torturers cut off his fingers during an interrogation and later beheaded him.

The TV channel said it obtained exclusive law enforcement surveillance footage, part of the Turkish government's investigation, that appeared to show the man leaving the Saudi consulate by the back door, wearing Khashoggi's clothes, a fake beard and glasses.

"I believe we should do more than mere threats, and above all to pretend that we are going to act".

Mr Johnson said "we can not just let it pass" and, while the United Kingdom has crucial trade and security links with the Gulf state, "the United Kingdom and the USA must lead other countries in holding Saudi Arabia properly to account".

A Saudi friend of Khashoggi who was in frequent touch with him before his death told the AP that Salah Khashoggi had been under a travel ban and barred from leaving the kingdom since past year as a result of his father's criticism of the government.

Saudi Arabia's explanation that Khashoggi was killed in a "fistfight" and 18 Saudis have been detained has been met with worldwide scepticism and allegations of a cover-up created to absolve Prince Mohammed of direct responsibility.

Germany has called on its European Union partners on Monday to stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia amid doubts over Riyadh's explanation on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

"The threatening, attacking or killing of journalists, under any circumstances, is unacceptable and of utmost concern to our three nations".

Several senior members of Trump's Republican Party said they believed Prince Mohammed was linked to the killing.
