The Latest: Khashoggi's Fiancée Put Under Police Protection

The two men dispose of the plastic bag, which Turkish officials believe contained Khashoggi's clothes, CNN reported.

Khashoggi, who was a US resident and a critic of Saudi policy, entered the consulate on October 2.

Saudi Arabia said 18 Saudis were arrested and that several top intelligence officials were fired. "And so, we're going to stay focused on that".

A view of Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to address the Khashoggi situation in a statement on Tuesday.

CCTV footage shows a man exiting the Saudi consulate wearing murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi's clothes, shortly after Khashoggi disappeared. Widodo's concerns were relayed by Indonesia's foreign minister following the meeting.

The surveillance footage forms part of Turkey's investigation into Khashoggi's death.

The Khashoggi case has opened a serious new rift, with Britain, France and Germany demanding that Saudi clarify how the journalist died inside its Istanbul consulate. Kushner's language mirrored how the president has cast the Khashoggi saga, although Kushner didn't bring up the value of arms sales, as Mr. Trump repeatedly has.

The Saudis have laid out different versions of the circumstances that led to the death of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and critic of Saudi Crown Prince, who was not seen after entering the consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2. Mr. Mutreb's name also matches that of a first secretary who once served as a diplomat at the Saudi Embassy in London, according to a 2007 list compiled by the British Foreign Office.

The Turkish officials spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government regulations.

Erdogan has remained largely silent on the case, although Turkey's pro-government newspapers have released information about events at the consulate. He also said Prince Mohammed was not responsible.

The murder has sparked global outcry, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel vowing on Sunday to suspend arms exports to Riyadh until uncertainty over the fate of Khashoggi vanishes.

"The Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman was not aware of this, even the senior leadership of the intelligent service was not aware of this", Al-Jubeir said. They then said he died in a fist fight after an argument inside the consulate. King Salman, 82, has handed the day-to-day running of Saudi Arabia to him.

That's according to statements published early Monday by the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

Trump has sought to shield the Crown Prince from the backlash over Khashoggi's death, saying the Royal family claimed they had no knowledge of what might have been a rogue operation at the consulate. The kingdom finally acknowledged his death early Saturday in what it described as a "fistfight".

The latest account includes details on how the team of 15 Saudi nationals sent to confront Mr Khashoggi had threatened him with being drugged and kidnapped and killed him in a chokehold when he resisted.
