Cowboys Trade First-Round Pick To Raiders For Amari Cooper

The Cowboys Massively Overpaid for Amari Cooper

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the deal, and reports Dallas will be sending a first round pick back to Oakland for Cooper.

The Cowboys have gone with a committee-like approach at receiver this season since parting ways with former No. 1 option Dez Bryant in April.

Cooper, the 24-year-old former Alabama star, adds a blend of experience and young talent.

Amari Cooper #89 of the Oakland Raiders runs after a catch against the Kansas City Chiefs during their National Football League game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on October 19, 2017 in Oakland, California. The Raiders, coming off a bye week, are 1-5 as they head into a Week 8 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

A first-round selection (fourth overall) by the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft, Cooper started in 47-of-52 career games for the club. With their season all but officially flushed down the toilet, this team does not need Cooper, who has been seriously underwhelming of late.

For Gruden, dealing his most accomplished receiver doesn't compare to the preseason trade that sent two-time All-Pro pass rusher Khalil Mack to Chicago. In exchange, they received the Cowboys' first-round pick in the 2019 draft. Cooper was limited to 48 catches for 680 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games last season and was sitting at 22 catches for 280 yards and one score in six games this season. But Cooper was a Pro Bowler in each of his first two seasons with the Raiders, eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards both years.

The Cowboys made the playoffs once in two-plus seasons with Williams, in 2009, when they won the franchise's first postseason game since the last of five Super Bowl victories following the 1995 season.
