Westbrook to miss season opener vs. Warriors

Russell Westbrook injury update

Russell Westbrook injury update

The Thunder did not have guard Russell Westbrook, who underwent a knee procedure late in the off-season.

By half-time, the Celtics had built a five-point lead and pushed the margin to eight when Irving hit two free throws for his first points of the game. It's great that the National Basketball Association is back, but it would have been nice to have a more entertaining game in the nightcap. He could not get it going from his favorite regions, and went 1-8 from downtown.

Versatile Warriors All-Star Draymond Green, limited during the preseason by a sore knee, wound up with two points, 13 rebounds and five assists in almost 33 minutes.

Adams had a double-double for the Thunder with 17 points and 11 rebounds. OKC has traditionally struggled when Westbrook is off the court, so Schroder was brought in from Atlanta to help keep the team afloat offensively during those minutes.

Yet, during an appearance Wednesday on ESPN's "Pardon The Interruption", the "Inside the NBA" analyst said the Celtics were the "only team" that could "realistically" defeat the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors this season.

Even still, the Thunder did an admirable job of hanging tough in this game without their best player in Westbrook.

Fans interested in participating in the Championship Ring Raffle can do so by visiting warriors.com/ringraffle for a chance to win a 100% certified, personalized 2017-18 NBA Championship ring.

There are 56 stones embedded on the side of the ring to signify the number of years the Warriors have been in the San Francisco Bay Area. What on earth is a reversible ring, you might ask? A few teams in the Western Conference made improvements, but the Warriors added four-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, who will be healthy just in time for the season's stretch run.

Klay Thompson shot just 5 of 20 for 14 points while center Damian Jones scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting for the Warriors in his first career start and 26th game.

With that decision out of the way, George has felt more comfortable approaching this season with no uncertainty surrounding his status any longer.

Thanks for stopping by.
