Luke Cage Cancelled: No Season 3 for Netflix Marvel Drama

Season 2 of Netflix's Luke Cage premiered on Friday and much like the first season, the show is backed by an excellent soundtrack which just so happens to include brand new music from the legendary Rakim.

Netflix has canceled "Luke Cage".

After rising tensions the past month, that conclusion was scrapped as it all went distinctly south in the last 48 hours.

Luke Cage, which stars Michael Colter and was created by former music journalist Cheo Hodari Coker, debuted in 2016 as Marvel's first show to be led by a black superhero and a predominately black cast. Let us know in the comments. It eventually escalated to behind-the-scenes turmoil in the past two days and demands for changes in creative regime.

For now, at least, it seems Netflix and Marvel are trimming the fat from its lineup. It's been hinted at that Finn Jones' Iron Fist could return at some point in the future, so is it possible that the cancellation of both shows simply means that Netflix and Marvel will be moving forward with a Heroes For Hire series in an attempt to revitalize the characters? No plans have been announced beyond those season orders, although showrunner Melissa Rosenberg will be leaving Jessica Jones after season three for a lucrative new deal at Warner Bros Television. Like numerous Netflix and Marvel shows, it suffered from bloat, with more episodes than there perhaps needed to be.

No word has been uttered yet about the possibility of LUKE CAGE coming back to life via Disney's upcoming streaming platform. That was easier early on when they were among a handful of Netflix originals but is getting harder today when they are competing with dozens of other buzzy shows on the Internet network.

Just one week ago, Netflix surprised us all by canceling Iron Fist after a much-improved second season. He also appeared in Jessica Jones and the crossover miniseries The Defenders. The move came as a shock, as the show was expected to get a third season.

The series' second season soundtrack treated hip-hop fans to new music from rap icon Rakim.
