Crew member 'critical' after falling 2 stories on set of Tom Hanks’ 'Mister Rogers' film: reports

James Emswiller, a sound technician, fell two stories from the balcony of an apartment building on Thursday in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mount Lebanon while taking a break between scenes, CBS News reports. Police said the man may have suffered a medical event before falling.

Emswiller, who won an Emmy Award in 2015 for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited Series or a Movie for his work on Bessie, has been in the entertainment industry for over 30 years.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, police were called to the Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania set last night for reports of a man who fell from the second story. He also worked on the upcoming Cate Blanchett film "Where'd You Go, Bernadette".

The Marielle Heller-directed film - now without a name but previously developed under the title You Are My Friend - was shooting a scene in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt. Lebanon, just south of the city.

Bystanders heard a odd noise at one point, went to investigate, and determined that Emswiller had fallen from the balcony.

Tom Hanks, portraying Rogers, was reportedly at the site, but left after the incident, according to the Tribune-Review. Hanks is playing Rogers in the film.

Rogers, a Latrobe native, was known worldwide for his television program, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood", which was produced at WQED-TV studios in Pittsburgh and aired from 1968 to 2001.

It is based on the real-life friendship between Rogers and Tom Junod, a cynical journalist who was sent to interview the TV star only to find the encounter transformed his outlook on life. The show is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with Morgan Neville's documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor' premiering at the Sundance film festival".
