Ramsey also discussed the contract talks publicly for the first time since negotiations collapsed and indicated that he had been ready to sign a new deal when the club's offer was rescinded.

The Welshman will be free to hold talks with clubs outside England in January and sign a pre-contract with a view to leaving Arsenal at the end of the season.

Ramsey's contract was the biggest issue with Arsenal this season.

His exit has sparked interest from around Europe, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool two high-profile suitors for the midfielder.

"What I do like about him and what I will always give him credit for, is that he never hides, never ever hides", Wright said on BBC 5Live. "We thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that's no longer the case", he said.

"I believe that Arsenal want him to stay, but they have to make this stance".

"That's a decision that they have made - things happen in football and you just have to get on with it and carry on playing the best you can", he said.

The 27-year-old is unlikely to be short of suitors if he does indeed leave the club on a free transfer next year having given a timely reminder of his abilities at Fulham yesterday as he made a starring appearance from the bench.

Ramsey is now on worldwide duty with Wales, who face the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday.

Ramsey has started six of the club's eight Premier League games this season but there have been questions as to whether he is an ideal fit for Unai Emery's style of play.
