Air India Express thereby issued a statement saying that an internal inquiry has been set up, the pilot and co-pilot have been de-rostered until the investigation is complete. The matter was conveyed to the pilot in command.




The statement said airport officials at Trichy airport said the plane "might have come in contact with the airport perimeter wall".

Later it was decided that the plane, which had "rose to high altitude" on its way to Dubai, would be diverted to Mumbai as a precaution.

Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister N. Natarajan visited the Trichy airport and inspected the damage. The aircraft landed at around 5.30 am and taxied to its parking spot even as emergency personnel stood by.
