We all saw it, the USA just got out played in the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National.

Europe's Italian golfer Francesco Molinari (C) celebrates with Europe's English golfer Tommy Fleetwood after victory in during his singles match on the third day of the 42nd Ryder Cup at Le Golf National Course at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, south-west of Paris on September 30, 2018.

"It means a lot but at the end of the day, I've always said it, it's about the team".

"I would have liked to had a little bit more red up there", he admitted.

Woods played down his teammate's horror show, though, admitting that it was a similar story to 24 hours before, when they lost 3 and 1 to Molinari and Fleetwood.

"I think we gelled and that's what you need in fourball", Garcia said in an NBC interview.

Patrick Reed was the only other U.S. victor, though, as Rahm capitalised on another below-par showing from Woods to secure a hugely significant point and Europe won six of the last seven contests, Olesen providing a highlight in his first appearance since Friday morning as he cruised past the previously impressive Spieth.

The Sunday loss was Woods' first in singles since losing to Italy's Costanino Rocco at his first Ryder Cup in 1997 and dropped him to 4-2-2 in that format. They didn't get it, and as a result the Euros have won a seventh Ryder Cup in their last nine tries.

Undeniably spent after the emotion of his win a week ago and an 18-tournament schedule, Woods would not go so far as to say he was hurt or diminished, hinting only that something was missing in France.

Woods came into the event on the back of a first win in five years at the Tour Championship and supposedly more invested than ever before in the contest having acted as a vice-captain in the victory at Hazeltine in 2016. "It's frustrating because we came here, I thought we were all playing pretty well, and I just didn't perform at the level that I had been playing, and just got behind early in the matches and never got back". We ran against two guys that were both playing well and when one was out of the hole, especially in best-ball, the other one made birdie and vice versa.

Woods insisted that his body feels just fine. "His pace looked a little bit slow walking", USA captain Jim Furyk said. "When it was there for us, Europe played really well". His record in fourballs and foursomes, when he goes out with a partner, is an ugly 9-19-1.

"He made birdies when I wasn't even in the holes".

Another still looms over Woods, dragging him down.
