Mourinho tells Manchester United squad Paul Pogba will never captain club again

Carabao Cup Report: Manchester United v Derby County 25 September 2018

The 25-year-old France worldwide is one of a number of regulars left out of the team for Tuesday's League Cup encounter with Derby County.

"When we're at home, we should attack, attack, attack".

Mourinho is understood to have made the brutal declaration in front of the rest of Pogba's stunned team-mates before their defeat to Derby.

The 25-year-old World Cup victor tried to force through a transfer to Barcelona days before the window closed but United chiefs were unwilling to sell their prized asset.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has again questioned his players' desire - amid reports he has told Paul Pogba he will not captain the club again.

Pogba served as captain in the team's 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday and on two other occasions.

The latest figures came as Ed Woodward, United's executive vice-chairman, offered his backing to Jose Mourinho at the same time as leaving the manager under no illusions about the importance of winning and blooding home-grown talent.

Despite Paul Pogba having a wonderful game, the Red Devils failed to add to their one-goal advantage and eventually, Wolves equalised and took away a much-deserved point from Old Trafford.

But Derby threatened throughout and got an equaliser in the second half when on-loan Liverpool winger Harry Wilson scored a brilliant free-kick from distance which completed deceived United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

"I don't think he (Sanchez) can warrant a place at the moment when you've got Martial and Rashford who are waiting to play", Wright said.

And according to the Daily Star's Adrian Stiles, Mourinho admires the defender and is keen to see Smalling's long-term future at Old Trafford assured before the season ends.
