Trump orders more Russia-related probe documents to be declassified

He also directed the Department of Justice to release FBI reports about Bruce Ohr, a Justice Department attorney, and the unredacted text messages of former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI agent Peter Strzok, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and Ohr.

"In addition, President Donald J Trump has directed the Department of Justice to publicly release all text messages relating to the Russian Federation investigation, without redaction, of James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, and Bruce Ohr".

Trump's move came after Paul Manafort, the former chairman of Trump's campaign, agreed to cooperate with the special counsel Robert Mueller, securing him his most significant victory yet in the Russian Federation investigation.

Various U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA, National Security Agency and FBI, have investigated him for alleged contact he had with Russian officials under U.S. sanctions.

"With the walls clearly closing in on him, President Trump is lashing out with this extraordinarily reckless and irresponsible release of classified information in a desperate attempt to distract from the seven guilty pleas and the mounting evidence of multiple criminal enterprises among his closest advisors", they said. And New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen accused the president Tuesday of "trying to undermine an active investigation through reckless declassification".

Those pages only make up a small part of the 412 pages of FISA applications and court orders related to Page released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation earlier this year in heavily redacted format.

"Objective people" looking at the documents used to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against former Trump campaign aide Carter Page will quickly conclude the application "was not an honest one", Rep. Pete King said Wednesday.

The announcement was made in a statement, which was distributed to reporters and published on the White House website as the US President was speaking at a Hispanic Heritage Month event.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Monday, "the President is potentially risking the lives of our patriots by compromising sources and methods, all so he can advance falsehoods and false narratives that distract from the truth of the Trump-Russia scandal". The younger Trump said no such information was provided and President Trump has said he was unaware of the meeting at the time it was scheduled.

President Donald Trump said his move to declassify secret documents in the Russian Federation investigation will ensure that "really bad things" at the FBI are exposed.

The American firebrand also told the DOJ to release reports about its interview with official Bruce Ohr. Parts of that surveillance application were released in July, but much was held back for national security reasons.

Burr previously broke with his House Intelligence Committee counterparts after they released a memo with details on the Page FISA. It's also unclear if the multi-agency review now underway might find ways to withhold certain information or limit whatever damage, such as outing sources or scaring off would-be ones, that may arise from the release.

They believe that the FISA court incorrectly allowed the surveillance on the basis of the material in the dossier.

The other 18 pages appear to relate to information the government submitted that came from former British spy Christopher Steele before the presidential election.

Republicans, meanwhile, applauded the president for what they described as an effort to promote full transparency.

Mr Ohr's wife Nellie worked for the opposition research firm that commissioned the creation of the Steele dossier, which contains damaging and unverified claims about Trump.
